Early life Bonnie Lee Hunt was born September 22, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were Robert Edward Hunt (1927-1981), an electrician, and Alice E. Hunt (née Jatczak) (1925-2021). Her father was from Irish and Belgian descent, and her mother has Polish roots. Her siblings include three older brothers: Patrick, Kevin, and Tom, as well as two older sisters, Cathy and Carol, and a younger sister, Mary. She attended Catholic schools, including Saint Ferdinand School and Notre Dame High School for Girls in Chicago, working part-time as a nurse's aide. In 1982, Hunt worked as an oncology nurse at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Two years later, in 1984, she co-founded a comedy troupe known as An Impulsive Thing. Hunt also joined Chicago's world-famous Second City, starting in 1986.
